Ballet Folklorico

August 29, 2008

In case you are wondering, reader, the dancer in the header photo is me.  I perform traditional Mexican dancing, also known as Ballet Folklorico.  My older sister and I were in a Ballet Folklorico troupe when we were younger, but stopped dancing in middle school.  I’ve dabbled in several other types of dance over the years (ballet, jazz, Irish ceili, swing dancing, salsa, bachata, merengue, some ballroom, etc).  A few months ago, after a seventeen year absence, I took up Folklorico again (dragging my youngest sister with me).  I enjoy it even more than I did as a kid.

I love learning about cultures through their traditional dances.  Dancing is a language more easily understood than speech.  It is how I learn about my Mexican roots, as well as my Irish roots with the ceili dancing.  And the German roots?  I will admit I love to polka. :)

Anyhow, here is a link to photos from our last performance: http://www.4marks.com/ALB0450442DDKN
