I had a couple of Hollywood dreams of my own that I was hoping to fulfill.  I already wrote about my inaugural dance in the waters of the Pacific.  My other dream was not as elegant at the ocean greeting, but it actually had something to do with Hollywood.

We watched a lot of classic movies and musicals growing up.  The all-time family favorite was Singing in the Rain. We not only watched the movie again and again, we also quoted our favorite lines over and over.  It could get pretty intense if there was a discrepancy regarding the exact wording of a quote.   We’d have to pull out the video and watch the movie to verify that I was right and whoever tried to challenge me was wrong.  Seriously, I don’t know why my siblings continued to question me.  I was right nine times out of ten and that tenth time both variations were incorrect.

These days, I’m not as accurate with my favorite quotes as I was in junior high and high school, but there are a few that continue to find their way into daily life.  The one I say the most is said upon arriving anywhere: “Here we are! Sunset and Camden!” Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) announces this in a sing-song voice to Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) when she arrives at his requested drop-off place.  It’s a catchy phrase and perfect for announcing one’s arrival.  I have found it almost impossible to simply say “Here we are!” without following it with “Sunset and Camden!” Since we were staying just off of Sunset, I wanted to find the intersection of Sunset and Camden just so I could say the line and know that it was true.  It was the one thing I really wanted to see, as silly as it sounds.

After Mass on Sunday evening, we headed to Century City for dinner at Huston’s, which is Rosario and Danny’s favorite restaurant.  On the way there, we passed Camden.  I knew Sunset was several blocks up, so I asked Danny if we could take a little detour on the way home.  Danny was gracious enough to humor me.

When he turned on Camden, I couldn’t believe how ridiculously excited I was.  Just ask my companions – it was ridiculous! I could hardly contain myself.  Finally there we were: Sunset and Camden.  I announced our arrival, but in my excitement I was barely able to get the words out!  Danny turned onto Sunset and then it was over.

It wasn’t a big dream, but I had always wanted to announce that I was at Sunset and Camden when I really truly was at Sunset and Camden.  The most exciting part was being able to fulfill that dream.  I was going dismiss my silly notion and promise myself I’d get around to it later, but I’m glad I didn’t.  I’m glad I was able to fulfill my little Hollywood dream.
