cecilia bedelia, f.g.
I received the title of Fairy Godmother (F.G.) earlier this year and have been honored with it once again. My friends, Amanda and David, asked me to be godmother to their son, Jamal. Today, just two days after the anniversary of my own baptism, I will stand with my friends as they offer their son to the Lord and commit to teaching him the wonders and mysteries of Christ and His Church.
Amanda and David asked me a while ago if I would accept this honor and challenge, which I was humbled to accept. I crossed paths with a co-worker shortly after talking to Amanda and David. “You look exceptionally happy,” she exclaimed.
“I’m going to be a godmother again!” I told her in utter elation. “Two godchildren in one year! I’m so excited!”
“Well at least you don’t have to worry about paying to get them through college,” she said dryly.
“Nope. I just have to worry about helping them get to heaven,” I replied. It’s a weighty responsibility, more so than putting a child through college. After all, one is temporary and the other not so much. Thankfully, God continues to provide this fairy godmother with everything I need to face this eternal challenge. (For more on that, read my previous post: The Fairy Godmother is In)
Happy Baptism Day, Jamal! Welcome to the Communion of Saints!
