adventures of c & k: valentine edition

February 17, 2012

Valentine’s Day.  In recent years, I had overcome my loathing of Valentine’s Day because I enjoyed the challenge of surviving the day as a single woman.  I would have my moments of woe, to be sure, but I was able to find a healthy balance of acknowledging loneliness without becoming bitter and celebrating loving familial relationships without undermining romantic love.  SO not as easy as it sounds!  But man, was it exhilarating when I succeeded!

This year was different.  This year, I spent Valentine’s Day with the man I am head-over-heels in love with:

Oh. Wait.  Er… I mean this man (Sorry, Karl):

Karl originally wanted to surprise me with an evening out, but we soon realized that wasn’t logistically possible, so we settled for dinner at my apartment.  Another woman might be disappointed by a quiet and low-key Valentine’s Day, but not me.  I preferred an intimate evening in a comfortable, relaxed setting.  It was still special since weekday dates are extremely rare in our world, and it was exactly what we needed, especially considering we sat on the couch after dinner and fell asleep ten minutes later.  Plus, Karl’s thoughtful gifts made the evening extra special.

Valentine’s Day wasn’t extraordinary because I am finally in a relationship; it was extraordinary because of Kermit Karl.
