cecilia bedelia survives sandy

October 30, 2012

Fear not, Reader.  I have weathered the storm and am faring better than most.  Aside from being separated from my fiance, I am among the lucky few still with power.  We lost power for only a few hours last night, but it was back by morning.  My apartment is on high ground so there has been no flooding to worry about.  The wind was horrifying, but our walls remain standing.

Karl was with his family for the duration of the storm.  They lost power and a couple of trees.  The big evergreen missed the house, and the cars were safe in the church parking lot at the top of the hill.  Neighbors came to the rescue today to help fix the damaged ramp, and flooding was not an issue this time around, thank heaven.  Karl still needed to keep the sump pump running through the night with the generator, but it could have been much worse.

The damage throughout New York and New Jersey is extensive, and I am grateful to have emerged from Sandy’s wrath relatively unscathed.  My heart goes out to all who have lost their homes and livelihoods.  Please keep everyone one in your prayers!
